Graphic Design is an ever expanding and wildly exciting field of study for creative individuals intent on using their artistic skills and analyzing mind in ways that become part of our collective visual landscape. Design today encompasses far more opportunities than ever before with designers moving beyond design studios and advertising agencies into companies in need of web design, video production, animation and more.

Graphic Design at STAC
Changes in technology are occurring at dizzying speed. While it is essential students learn necessary computer programs it is equally important to inform those technological tools with solid design principles. At St. Thomas Aquinas College we offer a studio-based curriculum that integrates solid design skills with computer proficiency, while at the same time reinforcing the social role of design.

A final capstone class in portfolio development ensures student leave our program with evidence of their design abilities providing the most effective way to enter the job market. Students are also encouraged to take advantage of the internship to gain real work experience.

AIGA membership
The St. Thomas Aquinas College Graphic Design program has been recognized by the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the professional organization for Graphic Designers. Because our program is recognized by AIGA, our students can become members and thereby gain access to the AIGA job and internship databases, they can show their portfolios on the AIGA website, attend lectures and studio visits, use the AIGA design library (in NYC), and receive invitations to many job networking events. In brief, membership in AIGA is an important step toward professionalizing students as they move from our program into the "real world." In fact, there is also an annual portfolio review where students can get feedback from different AIGA members as a way to prepare for real-world job interviews.

Careers in Graphic Design are continually expanding and changing. Our faculty is dedicated to maintaining a professional relationship to the field, while engaging in student-centered studio practices that are current and relevant.

If you have imagined yourself designing publications, CD and DVD packages, posters or any other print materials, or designing websites, interactive designs, video presentations or even animation, this is the career for you.
